As a new year begins, it’s a perfect time to reflect on all that we’ve reaped in our lives, as well as the seeds we’re planting for the future.


It’s natural to want better things in our lives. But how to make them happen? Here are 5 of my favorite quickie tools and reminders to realize our goals and dreams. 


1. Calm the noise: You can’t effectively plan or achieve your goals when you’re desperate, reactive, or feeling tense. Close your eyes and take 3-5 deep, cleansing breaths. As you breathe, imagine melting your muscles and brain, releasing any anxiety, frustration, overwhelm, or stress down a giant drain in the ground. 


2. Be your best self: When we remember ourselves at our best, we are in the right heart- and mind frame to see the big picture and choose the best next steps to achieve our dreams. Name your qualities when you’re your happiest, most authentic self (“I am confident,” “I am peaceful,” “I am joyful,” etc.).


3. Play Your Manifestation Movie: Imagine what it would be like to have your goals come true, noticing as much information as you can. Allow yourself to fully immerse yourself in the feelings of already having your desire.


4. Stay open: While it’s important to be specific when visualizing your goals, it’s equally important to be receptive to possibilities that might be even more in your best interest. Release needing to control the exact what, when, and how of your desire. Helpful phrase: “This or something better.”


5. Gauge when to kick back and when to create: Manifesting your desire isn’t like ordering a pizza, waiting for it to appear at your door. Nor do you need to wrestle it to the ground. Instead, check in throughout the process about when to be patient and wait versus when to take active steps to drive forward.


As things unfold, especially when you feel impatient, depressed, or frustrated that your goals and dreams aren’t happening the way or as fast as you’d like, revisit each of the steps above, asking your intuition if your goals are still the right ones, and if so, whether you’re still on track or need to make small or large adjustments each step of the way. Ask, “Is this action taking me closer to or further away from my goal?”
